Hope Arch

Featured here is Hope Arch near Chinle, Arizona. Standing 70 feet (21 m) in height, this natural, fin type arch has eroded through Estrada Sandstone. Hope Arch was named for Edna Earl Hope in 1909. She was the wife of Herbert Gregory, who was one of the first geologists to write about this area. The bottom photo is taken from the west side (opposite side of the top photo) and shows a little more context. Both photos taken on October 21, 2024.
