Sky Sports: Man Utd discuss 'internally' to sign £46m UCL star as four players could leave

Manchester United have had a disappointing Premier League campaign and they are languishing 14th in the table with 22 points after 19 games.

The Red Devils need a massive turnaround in the back end of the season to qualify for European football via the league. Manager Ruben Amorim may want reinforcement this winter.

Sky Sports today reveal that the Red Devils are open to permanent and temporary offers for four players.

Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Antony could be offloaded, should suitors come calling.

United are also likely to prioritise a new left wing-back in the ongoing transfer window. Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes has been one of the names discussed internally.

Mendes’ arrival could directly depend on player sales

The Red Devils have had a genuine concern from the left side of the defence this term.

Diogo Dalot was inconsistent in the left-back position at the start of the campaign. His struggles have continued in the left wing-back role since Amorim took charge.

Tyrell Malacia has been a regular in the squad after his return from a long-term knee injury, but the Dutchman has failed to sufficiently impress in his starts for United.

Mendes would be a quality upgrade in the department. The 22-year-old initially found success as a left wing-back under Amorim at Sporting CP before he moved to PSG.

The Portugal international is someone who is strong with the ball at his feet and possesses good defensive skills. He has also excelled with his regular overlapping runs.

Mendes has completed 90 percent of his passes in Ligue 1 this term with almost 60 percent duels won. He averages 4.6 recoveries with 71 percent of take-ons won.

The defender is valued at £46 million by Transfermarkt. PSG could demand a slightly higher fee for his transfer despite his contract expiring in less than 18 months.

United’s prospects of signing him could depend on whether they can recoup most of the funds from player sales.

It could be possible with Casemiro attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League. United could aim for at least £30m for the midfielder’s transfer to the Middle East.
