Virat Kohli going to take the Leadership Role for Tests- Reports suggest Rohit Sharma to…
For the setup of Test cricket, Indian captain Rohit Sharma is not likely going to be a part of the team’s plans after the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 against Australia. Rohit has been facing constant criticism for his bad form in batting, along with his leadership also coming under criticism after India faced a home series loss to New Zealand. According to a report in Times of India, Rohit is not going to continue as a Test cricketer after the series against Australia.
While Rohit ending as a Test cricketer might result in the team being in a state of concern, the reports also stated the possibility of Virat Kohli coming back as a leader of the team. The report stated that the former Indian captain is more vocal on the field, and addresses team huddles more often.
Rohit’s unsure future can also mean that he has already played his final Test, as reports are coming about him not featuring in the final Test against Australia, set to be held in Sydney.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir has not given confirmation about Rohit’s exclusion for the Sydney Test as of now. He had stated that the decision for the playing XI will be made after taking a look on the pitch.
“Everything is fine with Rohit and I don’t think it’s anything traditional. The head coach is here and that should be good enough. We are going to have a look at the wicket and finalise (the team) tomorrow,” Gambhir said at a press conference.
Virat Kohli stepped down from the leadership role as India’s most successful Test captain. He has led the team in 68 matches, as they have won 40 matches and only lost 17. The possibility of him being re-selected might be from the fact that the selectors may not have enough trust on the younger generation of players in case of captaincy.
