But hours after the clocks struck midnight, Maguire woke to find his landscaped gardens underwater amid torrential downpours.
Sources said the flood – which also struck neighbouring properties in Wilmslow, Cheshire – was up to 3ft deep.
Dad-of-two Maguire, married to florist wife, Fern, 29, jumped into action as emergency services in the region declared a major incident.
He was joined by guests as they tried to stop the water from reaching the house.
A source said: “It was all hands to the pump.
“They’d all had a wonderful night marking the New Year and went off to bed.
“But they woke a few hours later to find the back gardens deep underwater and the rain still falling.
“They did everything they could to stop the flood from reaching the house.
“It certainly wasn’t the start to the year they had expected, but Harry knows it was a lot worse for others.
“They’re assessing the damage and know it could have been a lot worse.”
An entire month’s worth of rain fell in just 48 hours, forecasters said yesterday as the clear up operation began.
Fire crews in Greater Manchester attended more than 100 incidents – with dozens of people trapped inside their homes.
In neighbouring Cheshire, the banks of the Bridgewater Canal collapsed.
Extraordinary aerial footage showed water cascading across nearby fields in the village of Little Bollington.
Residents fled and a section of the M56 was closed by police.
Mountain rescue teams were also deployed to help.
Chief Fire Officer Dave Russel said: “The flooding on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day caused considerable damage and disruption.
“We have evacuated nearly 1,000 people, half of them on boats, and many from flooded homes.
“Over the past 36 hours, fire crews have worked tirelessly to keep people safe.
“I’d like to thank everyone involved in the response for their hard work and dedication.”
Crews used powered inflatable boats to evacuate 445 people from the Britannia Hotel in Didsbury.
A further 400 people were evacuated from Meadow Mill flats in Stockport after a loss of power and water supply.
