PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A fire at a homeless camp in Salem left one person covered in second-degree burns and another injured on Tuesday, according to Salem Fire Department.

Officials said fire crews responded to the area on reports of a "transient campfire" behind the Interstate 5 sound wall near Northeast Fisher Road.

Multiple 911 calls had reported "hearing propane bottle explosions and screaming near the site," authorities said.

After arriving on the scene and extinguishing the fire, crews found a person who had been in a sleeping bag when the camp caught fire. Officials said 20% of the person's body was covered with second-degree burns.

Another person was also found with burns on their hands, authorities said.

Both were taken to Salem Hospital for treatment. Their current conditions are unclear at this time.

No other details were immediately available.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
