Tracking severe weather threat on Sunday, Arctic air throughout next week in South Louisiana

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - We'll see mostly clear and cool conditions for tonight with readings in the lower 50s by morning.

Clouds increasing for tomorrow with mostly cloudy skies. Isolated showers could be possible later in the day as warm air surges northward off the Gulf of Mexico and atmospheric lift begins to increase.

A storm system will impact the area on Sunday with a strong line of storms working into the area later Sunday evening. Out ahead of the storm, southerly winds will be strong, sustained in the 20-30 mph range with gusts to 40-45 mph. A level two out of five risk of severe weather has been put in place by the Storm Prediction Center (SPC). The threat of damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes will be present.

Behind the storms, an Arctic front will push southward. After highs top the upper 70s Sunday afternoon, morning starts on Monday will fall into the lower 30s! Breezy winds are anticipated on Monday as highs stay buried in the mid-40s.

Morning starts could be in the upper 20s to lower 30s Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. Highs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be in the 40s.

Models are starting to agree on precipitation coming into the picture by Thursday and Friday. So far, models show a warm enough temperature profile for this precipitation to fall as rain, but we'll have to continue to watch model trends for any changes.
