PHOTOS: Landslide, flooding cause 3 Oregon state parks to close
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Three Oregon state parks closed on Friday due to flooding as well as a landslide near Coos Bay, officials announced.
The landslide undercut a portion of the Cape Arago Hwy, leading to closures at Cape Arago and Shore Acres state parks.
Additionally, the Sunset Bay State Park was closed due to flooding, according to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. The campground was evacuated around 8 a.m. and could stay closed into next week.
"The Sunset Bay day-use area is currently open but could close if flooding continues. Restroom buildings are closed, but portable toilets are currently available in the day-use area," officials said.
There is currently no estimate on how long it will take for Cape Arago Highway to be repaired and reopened. However, officials say it could be closed for an "extended period" as the landslide is located between Sunset Bay and Shore Acres state parks.
