How Tom Brady Could Be Valuable For Patriots In 2025 NFL Draft
The Patriots can lock up the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which could earn them a king’s ransom from quarterback-needy teams.
A New England loss to the Buffalo Bills this Sunday would lock up the top selection in the draft. It would be important to earn that pick because of the history of trade packages involved with the No. 1 pick.
One problem, however, is that the quarterback class in the upcoming draft doesn’t look so great. Still, QB is the most important position in football and there could be a desperate enough team that wants to move up to the top spot.
That team could be the Las Vegas Raiders. Owner Mark Davis stated that minority owner Tom Brady will have some say in team decisions. What that means exactly isn’t clear, but Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson offered details of Brady’s infatuation with Shedeur Sanders.
“From what I’ve been told about Brady’s opinion of Sanders — which he has shared with a handful of NFL coaches and executives over the past 18 months — there is a great amount of respect for Sanders’ focus on preparation, his ability to learn and adapt, his accuracy and determination in the pocket, and his toughness to take hits and still be resilient,” Robinson wrote Friday. “I’ve been told that Brady has also been impressed that Sanders has avoided the pitfalls of being thrust onto the center stage of college football’s limelight after transferring to Colorado to play for his father, Deion. For the most part, Shedeur has never become a distraction, developed selfish tendencies or created issues with his public profile or fame that overshadowed his team or his game. He also stayed in school for four years and developed, which is something Brady has repeatedly and publicly said he values in a young quarterback.”
Robinson is one of the most plugged-in reporters in the business, and you can tell from the way Brady speaks on commentary and podcasts that the assessment of Sanders appeals to the Patriots Hall of Famer.
If New England controls the No. 1 pick, what if Brady convinced Las Vegas to trade up for Sanders? The Patriots could get a haul and the Raiders could get their future franchise quarterback. That only is possible if the Patriots have at least a top-five pick since Sanders is expected to be drafted that high.
Brady called himself a “Patriot for life,” and he could do his former team a solid by giving them a trade partner in the 2025 NFL Draft.
