Snow expected in the city Monday after windchill drops to single digits

0

Chicago could see snow Monday before temperatures start to drop into the teens, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow is expected south of I-80 Sunday night and into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Lake effect snow — between 1 and 4 inches — is then expected to hit the city and surrounding areas early Monday morning until about 7 p.m., according to National Weather Service meteorologist Zachary Yack.

“But there’s still a little bit of uncertainty about how much snow there will be,” Yack told the Sun-Times Saturday afternoon.

Wind chills could drop as low as zero Sunday before coming back into the low teens Monday due to blustery winds that will come along with the snow, according to Yack. Gusts as high as 30 mph are expected throughout the day Monday before subsiding in the late afternoon.

Following the snow, temperatures are slated to get much colder, with lows expected to drop to 16 degrees Tuesday and 14 degrees Wednesday night.

“It will definitely get cooler through the week,” Yack said. “We’re probably going to be stuck in this colder pattern for the middle part of January.”

Cloudy skies are anticipated to stick around through the end of the week with lows staying around 20 degrees.
