Delaware County sheriff’s deputy struck by truck released from hospital

DELAWARE, Ohio (WCMH) -- A Delaware County sheriff's deputy that was hit by a semi-truck while responding to a crash has been released from the hospital after one month.

The sheriff's office said Sunday morning that Deputy Nickolas Golden was released from the hospital and will begin his rehab process. The sheriff's office said he underwent multiple surgeries while in the hospital as he begins the road to recovery. "Dep. Golden's bravery, strength, determination, attitude, and faith have been inspiring," said the sheriff's office in a statement.

On Dec. 5, Dep. Golden was responding to a crash on an Interstate 71 exit ramp in the morning. He and another deputy were standing on the berm by a disabled Toyota when a semi-truck jack-knifed off the west side of the highway and hit Dep. Golden. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition but was awake the following day after being hit.

“Nick is a fighter, and we know his determination and resilience will play a vital role in his recovery,” the family wrote on Dec. 6.
