Bengaluru Jawans has officially joined the World Pickleball League (WPBL) as its newest franchise, owned by renowned filmmaker and creator of Bollywood hits like ‘Jawan’ and ‘Baby John’ Atlee and his wife, Priya Atlee. The WPBL, co-founded by former Indian tennis players Gaurav Natekar and Arati Ponnappa Natekar, will kick off on January 24. It features six franchises and a total of 48 players from India and around the world competing at the highest level of pickleball.
This acquisition marks Atlee and Priya’s entry into the sports world, fueled by their passion for pickleball and their vision to support the growth of the league. The Bengaluru Jawans boast an impressive roster, headlined by Indian pickleball star Vrushali Thakare, popularly known as ‘Hammer Thakare’ for her dynamic playing style. Joining her are international players Jack Foster, Katerina Stewart, Trang Hyunh McClain, Marcelo Jardim, Alejandra Bobaria, Felix Grunert, and Mauro Garcia, forming a formidable lineup.
