From bizarre furry robots that cling onto your bag to the world’s ‘first’ electric skates – the gadgets so far at CES
THE world’s wildest tech show is about to take place in Las Vegas with all sorts of mind-boggling gadgets on show.
In years past, CES (the Consumer Electronics Show) has been the launch ground for everything from futuristic flying cars to controversial sex toys.
Would you have a furry robot cling to your handbag?[/caption] World’s ‘first’ electric skates were also on show at CES[/caption]The doors to the event will officially open on Tuesday but press have been given a sneak peek of some products you might see very soon.
Electric skates
Move over electric scooters – French firm Atmos Gear is putting skates in the first line.
The team claims to have created the world’s first electric skates which power up your journey by up to 18mph.
It has a range of up to 16 miles too.
The device sets the middle wheel spinning for that speedy boost for thrill-seekers.
Users must wear a little battery pack around their waist to power it up.
Using a controller you can accelerate, brake and even go backwards.
Furry bag robots
Robots are getting everywhere these days and next they’re coming for you bags.
These bots may look cute but their peculiar subtle head turns are a little creepy too.
What’s even more strange about Mirumi is the goal behind it is to “recreate the joy of encountering and interacting with a human baby” with baby-like bashfulness.
These devices cling onto your handbag handle and use an internal distance sensor to look around at certain times, such as when people come close up.
It’ll even shake its head to say “No” when jiggled.
Coffee machine-style ice cream of dreams
What if making a delicious fresh-tasting ice cream was as easy as putting a pod in a coffee machine?
That’s something ColdSnap have come up with, allowing you to pop a can-like pod into a machine for deliciously smooth ice cream.
It comes out within two to three minutes.
I tried the salted caramel flavour and it was really tasty.
More robots
There’s sure to be a lot more robots at CES but we got a glimpse of Mirokai, a more fun looking bot by Paris-based Enchanted Tools.
The orange coloured robot features a more anime-style face than some of the more sterile ones we’ve seen previously.
It’s designed to move objects but we didn’t see any of that in action just yet.
Beauty and health mirrors
There are plenty of techy mirrors on show this year too.
I got to try Samsung‘s magic mirror which recommends the best skincare for you.
And Withings also had a health concept mirror on show called Omnia.
It measures your health metrics and shows them on screen with an AI voice assistant that provides some feedback.
