Jets Owner Weighs in on Aaron Rodgers' Uncertain Future
The New York Jets ended their season yesterday with a 5–12 record, marking an abysmal end to Aaron Rodgers' first full season with the team after being benched with an Achilles injury just four plays into the 2023 season. Now, with the regular season behind them and any playoff prospects down the drain, Jets team leaders are examining how to move forward to ensure success next season.
In an interview with The New York Post, team co-owner Woody Johnson was frank about how Rodgers' fate with the team will play out.
“From a numbers standpoint, [Rodgers] did OK, except for the most important number—winning games," he said. "But that’s going to be up to the coach. The coach will have to decide what the quarterback situation is. That’s going to be a very important job for the general manager and the coach: What do we want and when do we get it and what’s our timeline—where does Aaron Rodgers fit into that?"

The Jets fired former head coach Robert Saleh early on this season, leaving a hole that the team is now attempting to fill. The team's current position today is a far cry from what Rodgers had envisioned before starting with the team in August 2023: Multiple Super Bowl titles.
"I don't plan on this being a one and done. I think we're going to be competitive here for a long time," he told CBS New York at the time. "I'd like to be able to play a few good years here, and then hand it right back off to Zack [Wilson], and let him go for the next 15, and then it'd be a really special 18–20 year run of great quarterback play." Wilson, now 25, ended up joining the Denver Broncos last year.
