Trump announces pick to take over as US attorney for Eastern District of New York

A Long Island attorney is President-elect Donald Trump's pick to become the next U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

Trump picked Joseph Nocella Jr. to run the office, which comprises the counties of Kings, Nassau, Queens, Richmond, and Suffolk, and is currently held by Breon Peace.

"Judge Nocella has a strong record of bringing Law and Order to the incredible people of New York, serving as a Nassau County District Court Judge, and Family Court Judge," Trump said in a statement.

Trump touted Nocella's educational background, noting he graduated from Columbia Law School, and said Nocella spent over a decade in private practice, clerked for U.S. District Judge Lawrence M. McKenna and was also an assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York in the 1990s.

Additionally, Nocella served as town attorney for the Town of Oyster Bay on the North Shore of Nassau County.

"Congratulations Judge Nocella!" Trump exclaimed.
