Live updates: Trump heads to Capitol Hill after asking Supreme Court to stop NY sentencing

President-elect Trump kicked off Wednesday morning by asking the Supreme Court to halt the scheduled Friday sentencing in his New York hush money case until his appeals in the case are resolved. 

Trump's attorneys wrote in the emergency application that his inauguration in 12 days is also a reason for pausing the sentencing.

Trump will head Wednesday to Washington, where he's set to meet around 6 p.m. with Senate Republicans. The trip coincides with Thursday's state funeral for former President Carter.
