Car abandoned on Colorado ski run; Driver blames GPS

0

DENVER (KDVR) — A driver got a prime (but illegal) parking spot on the slopes Sunday night when their GPS led them right onto a ski run at Keystone Resort in Colorado.

The driver was navigating to an employee housing complex at Keystone when the GPS route directed them to turn onto the Schoolmarm ski run, Summit County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Mike Schilling said.

Keystone Resort staff found the car abandoned at the base of the run Monday morning with a note. The driver told deputies they followed the route onto the run and eventually got stuck in the snow.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office did not cite the driver since the car was left on ski-area permitted property.

Keystone Resort confirmed the car's location on the ski run to Nexstar's KDVR on Monday, saying it was driven onto the snow at the Mountain House base area. Because of skiing and riding operations during the day on Monday, fencing was placed around the car to protect guests and workers.

"Our team is assisting this guest with getting a tow truck into the area this evening to remove the vehicle. No damage was caused," a resort communications manager said.
