Menacing Wildfires Just Delayed a Popular Dystopian Amazon Show
Based on the popular video game series of the same name, the Amazon Prime Video series Fallout was one of the most popular breakout hits of 2024. And, after critics and fans alike binged the show and devoured every ghoulish detail about the series, everyone is ready for more Fallout.
But just as Season 2 was slated to go into production in California, the wildfires of Southern California were too dangerous to ignore. According to Deadline, Fallout Season 2 has been forced to shut down production for the safety of the cast and crew. The show's second season films in Santa Clara after receiving a $25 million dollar tax credit, which relocated production from New York to California.
In real life, the recent wildfires in southern California were spread rapidly by the fearsome Santa Ana wind. In Fallout, the setting of the series is entirely post-apocalyptic, though wind isn't the culprit, but rather, various nuclear explosions, and an event called "The Great War." Still, scenes from SoCal right now look very much like flashbacks in Fallout or many other apocalyptic sci-fi shows or movies
As firefighting crews work to contain the fires throughout the impacted areas of California, Fallout will delay shooting until at least Friday of this week. And if the devastating continues, it's possible the series could be put on hold even further.
