Skidmore College to host 11th annual culinary competition

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Skidmore College will be hosting the annual American Culinary Federation Competition on Friday. Chefs from six different states will compete. 

Featuring 10 teams, the 11th annual competition will be styled after the reality-based television show “Chopped.” The chefs will have to prepare a three-course menu and buffet platter by using the ingredients provided to them. The teams will have an hour and a half to develop their menus and several hours to prepare and serve their dishes. 

A panel of professional chefs will judge the teams on originality, taste and presentation. They may also award or deduct points for timing, teamwork, utilization of the provided ingredients, skills, sanitation and overall preparation. 

This year’s participating institutions include Skidmore College, Cornell University, St. Lawrence University, Princeton University, The University of Massachusetts, Middlebury College, Professional Chefs of New Hampshire, College of the Holy Cross, University of Buffalo and the World Master Chefs Society from Texas. Skidmore’s team has won gold medals in several past competitions. 

The competition will begin on Friday at 6 a.m. at Skidmore College in the Murray-Aikins Dining Hall. The public is invited to watch the chefs in action between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. An awards ceremony will follow on the second floor of the dining hall.
