Honda to produce two electric vehicle models at Marysville plant

MARYSVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) -- As Honda aims to steer electric vehicles into a new era, its plant in Marysville will play a role.

The carmaker announced it will mass produce its new Honda 0 series models at its EV hub in Marysville beginning in 2026. The new models will be the "Honda 0 SUV" and the "Honda 0 Saloon," which will be dedicated EVs that it plans to introduce to the North American market.

Among the features in these planned new EV models are automated driving technology and an in-house developed operating system. This announcement continues Honda's expansion of the Marysville plant, which has been open since 1982.

The Union County plant was part of a $700 million investment in 2022 to construct electric vehicles and components along with Ohio locations in East Liberty and Anna. Gov. Mike DeWine estimated that more than 300 jobs would be created from retooling the plants.

Honda has also made big investments to expand operations in Ohio with a $3.5 billion electric vehicle battery plant in Fayette County, which is scheduled to begin production this year. Ohio State University received $15 million from Honda to construct a battery cell research and development center. A previous report on the research center can be seen in the player above.

This is all amidst Honda's aim to merge with fellow Japanese automaker Nissan by 2026, which would create the world's third largest automaker behind Toyota and Volkswagen.
