National Day of Mourning: What's closed as Jimmy Carter is laid to rest

0

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Some facilities and operations will be closed on Thursday in observance of the National Day of Mourning following former President Jimmy Carter's death.

Here's what's closed:

  • All federal offices
  • The U.S. Postal Service
  • The Supreme Court
  • The trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange
  • NASDAQ's U.S. equities and options markets

All flags will continue to be flown at half-staff for 30 days from Dec. 29, which is when the 39th president passed away at the age of 100.

Carter's funeral will be held on Thursday. He will lie in state until 7 a.m. before his remains are transferred from the U.S. Capitol to the Washington National Cathedral for his funeral.

A private funeral will also be held Thursday afternoon in Carter's hometown of Plains, Georgia.
