Free tax filing service from the IRS for 2025 tax season
NEW YORK (PIX11) – The IRS is kicking off tax season with a free filing service starting Friday.
Taxpayers with an adjusted gross income of $84,000 or less in 2024 can file their taxes for free through online services partnered with the IRS.
Users can start from the IRS Free File page on IRS.gov. and find a guided tax software that best suits their needs.
Additionally, taxpayers with an AGI above $84,000 can use the Free File Fillable Forms starting Jan. 27. These electronic versions of IRS paper forms are for those comfortable preparing their own taxes
IRS Free File is one of the free options available to taxpayers during filing season. New Yorkers can also take advantage of Direct File which will be available when filing season opens in January 2025.
