New York's highest court denies Trump demand to pause his felony sentencing

0

The New York appeals court has ruled against Donald Trump's request to stay his sentencing hearing, which was scheduled for Friday, Jan. 10, legal analyst Adam Klasfeld posted on Blue Sky.

"Your proposed order to show cause was reviewed by Judge Rivera, who declined to sign the order. As a result of the Judge's determination, no motion is pending in the above title at the Court of Appeals," the letter to Trump's lawyer, Todd Blanche, said.

The only way that Trump can stop the sentencing is if the U.S. Supreme Court steps in and overrides the New York court system.

Legal scholars have commented for the past several days that the appeal to the High Court is improper.

"Predictably, President-elect Trump has asked the Court he has carefully stacked to accord him all the privileges of the office he has yet to occupy. The legal flimsiness of his request isn’t likely to matter much with these Justices. Hope I’m proven wrong, but I’m not optimistic," wrote Harvard constitutional law Professor Emeritus Laurence Tribe.
