White Sox avoid arbitration with Andrew Vaughn, three others
The White Sox agreed to terms on one-year contracts with four players Thursday, avoiding arbitration with first baseman Andrew Vaughn and right-handers Justin Anderson, Penn Murfee and Steven Wilson.
Vaughn signed for $5.85 million, Anderson for $900,000, Wilson for $950,000 and Murfee for $780,000.
The Sox have agreed to terms with all their arbitration-eligible players for 2025.
Vaughn led the Sox in games (149), at-bats (570), hits (140), doubles (30), RBI (70), runs (55), extra-base hits (50) and total bases (.229).
Through May, Vaughn was batting .199/.264/.313 with four homers. He batted .303/.340/.483 his last 22 games, finishing at .246/.297/.402 and a career low .699 OPS.
"He was dealing with some stuff early but kudos to him, he was inside putting in the work," hitting coach Marcus Thames said. "He was busting his butt to be the player he can be. He went through a phase where his moves got a little out of whack but he got it back together and finished up pretty good. Andrew can hit.
"He was one of those guys who was trying to chase production instead of being the hitter he can be and his chase went up a little."
A former No. 3 overall draft pick, Vaughn owns a .254/.310/.415 hitting line with 72 homers in four major league seasons.
Anderson posted a 4.39 ERA in a team-high 56 relief appearances last season.
