Local veteran finds healing, hope in poetry

(NEWS10) -- A local veteran is helping to give back to other veterans through poetry. Angie Lupie, who was injured in Iraq, is releasing a book of poetry and short stories.

"The Sandbox" reflects her experiences and offers support to fellow veterans. She also hopes to build a veteran community through her new website and offers those with similar life experiences a space to relate to each other.

"I always say this, 'I can't be in the military anymore, so I still have to do something and give back,'" she said. "The more that you do, the easier it will be to get out of bed, and you'll have a reason to, and my reason is everyone out there and helping my comrades."

"The Sandbox" will be released on Jan. 17. Half of the proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
