Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC), a government-to-government contracting agency, has been awarded a $14 million contract with the United States Department of Defense (U.S. DoD) to supply QinetiQ’s uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV), Vindicator, and related services to the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD).

The Vindicator, target designed to simulate the threat of missiles and aircraft for air defense systems, is built to withstand challenging conditions and rigorous training scenarios, enhancing military readiness and proficiency, CCC claimed, adding that the UAV offers an essential tool for defense operations to test and evaluate air-defense systems effectively.

Diane Montambault, VP of Contract Management and Operations, CCC, said: “QinetiQ’s Vindicator is a world-class UAV solution that exemplifies Canadian engineering at its best.”

Ryan Peterson, Customer Account Manager, QinetiQ, remarked: “QinetiQ is proud to offer the Vindicator to the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, to help enhance the preparedness and response capabilities of the U.S. Navy.”

To note, UK-based QinetiQ is a provider of defense and security solutions. Its Canadian facility, located in Medicine Hat, Alberta, specializes in autonomous systems, robotics and cybersecurity solutions. CCC is the designated contracting authority for U.S. DoD purchases from Canada. Through its U.S. DoD Prime Contractor service, CCC supports QinetiQ to supply the UAV to the U.S. Navy.

As for other recent CCC activities, in December 2024, the agency was awarded a contract from the U.S. DoD for an advanced winch system developed by Rolls-Royce Canada’s Naval Handling business to deploy, tow and recover sonar equipment.

Through the contract, valued at up to $110 million, Rolls-Royce Canada will supply the OK-410 handling and stowage group system to the U.S. Navy’s Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), along with spare parts and engineering services.
