Heather Morgan heads to prison soon for her role in the Bitfinex hack, but her rap alter ego Razzlekhan is just getting started

Heather Morgan, AKA Razzlekhan.
  • Heather Morgan will soon report to prison for 18 months over her role in the 2016 Bitfinex hack.
  • Before she surrenders, she's leaning into her rap alter ego, Razzlekhan, to process her experience.
  • Razzlekhan's latest music video for her new song "Razzlekhan vs The United States" dropped Friday.

Before she reports to prison for her role in the 2016 Bitfinex hack, Heather Morgan, also known as her hypersexual surrealist rap alter ego, Razzlekhan, has something to say.

"Weird enough to catch a case, they think I'm from outer space, everyone wanna taste," Razzlekhan raps, disjointedly, in her latest music video for the song "Razzlekhan vs The United States," which was released early Friday.

"Thought I was a junky, but I'm just spunky and kind of clumsy, neuro-atypical synesthesia baby weirdo — but I ain't crazy," she sings while bent over and looking at the camera through her legs.

The new video features alternating images of Morgan dancing, at times bound in a decorative Japanese rope bondage harness while sporting fishnet stockings and others donning gray sweatpants and a red puffer jacket with her entire face covered by a blue balaclava mask with horns.

Razzlekhan was the subject of particularly intense scrutiny and, at times, mockery while Morgan and her husband, Ilya Lichtenstein — together known as the "crypto couple" — were on trial for the $4.5 billion bitcoin hack and laundering scheme.

Lichtenstein confessed to committing the original 2016 hack as part of his guilty plea in 2023. He was sentenced on November 14 to five years in federal prison.

Morgan pleaded guilty to a single count of money-laundering conspiracy related to the stolen bitcoin and one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States. On November 18, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

In one of his first public statements since his arrest, Lichtenstein wrote in a post on social-media platform X that Morgan had nothing to do with the hack itself.

"She didn't even know about it for years," Lichtenstein said. "In many ways, my wife, who I love so so much, is just another victim of my bad decisions."

But before Morgan surrenders to serve her sentence, she told Business Insider she wants to reclaim the narrative about the crime with a series of songs she's releasing as Razzlekhan.

She said "Razzlekhan vs. The United States" is a misfits' anthem, but also has deeper meaning.

"It symbolizes many of my thoughts and actual experiences throughout our federal court case," Morgan said. "Like all other Razzlekhan music videos, the lines of sex appeal and cringe memes are blurred, but throughout the song, there are hidden messages and various social commentary to decipher."

The BDSM rope harness, for example, is a nod to being repeatedly strip-searched — eight times, Morgan said — after she was arrested. The balaclava mask is a symbol of privacy and anonymity, which Morgan says is largely a thing of the past in her life. Other clues in the video, she said, will have to be decoded by her fans.

Morgan said she wrote "Razzlekhan vs. The United States" several years ago while under house arrest as her way of processing the trial, media scrutiny, and judgments she faced for her and her husband's actions. She said she felt singled out during the investigation and her arrest, and decided to channel those feelings into her creative endeavors as Razzlekhan to turn the experience into something more productive, even if most people don't understand it.

BI previously reported that Morgan's bombastic Razzlekhan persona baffled her friends, who weren't clear on whether she was earnestly trying her best to rap in the cringey videos, or putting on a Borat-like character as part of a larger commentary — though on what, they weren't certain.

Morgan told BI that Razzlekhan isn't there to be understood by everyone, just a select group of "Razzlers," which she calls her fans, creative collaborators, and loved ones like her husband.

"There's a lot more to Razzlekhan than has been seen in the media. She has many layers, like a sexy, juicy artichoke," Lichtenstein told BI. "I hope people who watch her video look past the titillating imagery and consider the deeper meaning that is an undercurrent through all of her art."
