Live coverage: Trump prepares for criminal sentencing while Supreme Court considers TikTok's future
President-elect Trump is slated to be sentenced in his hush money conviction on Friday in New York, the final step in securing his status as the first felon to assume the presidency when he is inaugurated in just over a week.
The Supreme Court late Thursday closed off Trump's last pathway to halt his sentencing, a move the justices attributed to an appeals process that can take place after sentencing and the fact that he can appear in court virtually, determining that would lessen the burden on his transition duties.
Around the same time, the Supreme Court will hear arguments that will determine the future of the social media platform TikTok. The justices will hear oral arguments over a federal law that could ban the video-sharing platform nationwide in less than 10 days.
In its waning days, the Biden-era Justice Department will square off in the courtroom against lawyers for TikTok and several creators in a seismic battle that pits national security against free speech.
And in Washington, D.C., Rudy Giuliani is slated to take the stand in a criminal contempt case over accusations he has continued to make false statements about a set of Georgia election workers he accused to election fraud in 2020.
Trump's sentencing is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. EST
The Supreme Court will convene at 10 a.m. EST and the Giuliani hearing will begin at 10:30 a.m. EST.
