Snow causing delays, cancellations on air and ground in Chicago; nearly 100 flights canceled at O'Hare
Nearly 100 flights were canceled and over 150 more were delayed after a ground stop was issued at O'Hare Airport due to winter weather Friday morning.
The ground stop was lifted at 9:15 a.m., according to Federal Aviation Administration officials.
At O'Hare, 97 flights were canceled and 154 more were delayed as of 9:30 a.m., according to Flightaware. At Midway, 30 flights were canceled and 18 were delayed.
Average delays at both airports were under 15 minutes, according to FlyChicago.
The ground stop is not the first issued at O'Hare this week. A ground stop was put in place by the FAA Monday morning due to slippery conditions.
Light snow will continue to coat roads around the area through the rest of this morning, then focus on areas east of I-55 during the afternoon. Prepare for slick travel and slowed traffic as you hit the road today. #ILwx #INwx pic.twitter.com/5XS0HoB2Ag

Slick road conditions were expected to remain as about 1 to 2 inches of snow has fallen in the city and surrounding suburbs Friday before a mix of snow and freezing rain arrives Sunday.
"The snow is certainly coating the roads right now and it's cold enough where anything that falls is really going to stick," Kevin Doom, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said. "Traffic is definitely moving slower at there and visibility is a little bit reduced."
Doom urges commuters to plan for longer travel times through the slippery weather.
"Just take it a little bit slower and use some extra caution," Doom said.
