Arshdeep Singh makes his case strong for Champions Trophy selection with brilliant Vijay Hazare spell

Just days after a video of him bowling in County Cricket made rounds on social media, India pacer Arshdeep Singh is once again making headlines. The left-arm seamer bowled a sensational spell against Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, picking up wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Siddhesh Veer and Rahul Tripathi.

His opening spell was particularly impressive as he beat Gaikwad several times before eventually getting his wicket for just 5 runs. Just an over later, Arshdeep made his figures even better by getting rid of Siddhesh. The pacer got him out on the fifth ball of the over, as he nicked the delivery and got caught behind.

Arshdeep ended his opening spell with figures of 2/33 in six overs, including a maiden. He would later return and dismiss Tripathi for 15 runs. His spell of 3/56 in 9 overs helped Punjab in restricting Maharashtra to 275/6 after 50 overs.

With star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah looking doubtful for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy which is set to commence from February 19, Arshdeep is very well in the race to make it to India’s 15-man squad.

The left-arm pacer will have to compete with the likes of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna among others for the spots.
