There was that thread about tribute bands last week I nearly suggested Southside Johnny as a glorified version who the week before had announced his retirement at 76 due to ill health. His whole schtick with Stevie Van Zandt and Bruce early to mid 70's was Sam and Dave. Great singer from that era that came and went very quickly in the sixties so that by the 80's they had to be rescued from the Florida/Caribbean cruise circuit (think Edwin Starr and Ronnie Spector) where they'd been exiled to by the industry
His duet with Bruce on the Human Touch album "Real World" unfortunately is one of the low points of Bruce's recording career. Arguably Bruce's worst album at least up until the truly dreadful Working on a Dream. Overproduced and synthetic sounding absolutely killed the whole soul of the track Bruce had debuted in Los Angeles at a Christic Institute show in 1990
