Abbott congratulates Giddings, recognized as tourism-friendly

GIDDINGS, Texas (KXAN) -- On Thursday, Governor Greg Abbott congratulated the city of Giddings for being designated as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community by Travel Texas.

The designation shows the Giddings Chamber of Commerce's commitment to developing tourism to help strengthen economic growth, boost job creation, and draw more visitors to the community, according to a press release.

"Every region of this great state offers endless opportunities to experience the natural beauty, rich history, and true Texas hospitality that draws visitors to our communities. I congratulate the City of Giddings and the Giddings Chamber of Commerce on earning this designation," Abbott said.

Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell said Giddings was recognized for its German and Czech traditions, downtown landscape, and the local events it offers.

The inaugural Tourism Friendly Texas Community program is open for local governments or non-profit organizations that help lead efforts in promoting tourism and development efforts. Texas communities can learn more by visiting its website.
