Uzbekistan and Pakistan discuss Afghanistan and Regional Security
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan stated that Ismatullah Irgashev, the special representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, met with Ahmed Farooq, the Pakistani ambassador, in Tashkent to discuss the current situation and prospects for bilateral cooperation on issues related to Afghanistan.
The Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the meeting focused on the situation in Afghanistan and regional security issues.
According to the press release, which was published on Friday, January 17, the implementation of transportation projects in Afghanistan, including the construction of the Afghanistan-Trans railway, was also discussed.
Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties to improve the security and economic situation in Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan stated that these projects could have a significant impact on Afghanistan’s economic developments and infrastructure growth.
The Afghanistan-Trans railway starts from Termez, Uzbekistan, and passes through the cities of Mazar-i-Sharif and Kabul before reaching Peshawar, Pakistan.
The proposal for the construction of the Afghanistan-Trans railway, connecting Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan, was introduced in 2018 with the aim of creating an economic corridor that would link Central Asia to Pakistan’s seaports. The cost of building this railway is estimated to exceed $4.5 billion, and its total length is 573 kilometers.
This railway project could play a pivotal role in enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic cooperation between the three countries. If completed, it would significantly improve trade routes, allowing for smoother transportation of goods between Central Asia and South Asia.
Moreover, the success of this project would not only provide economic benefits but could also contribute to greater stability in the region. By facilitating more integrated economic relations, it has the potential to strengthen political ties and reduce tensions among the countries involved.
