Ex-France star Adil Rami replies to Ronaldo for ‘mistake’ comparison
Former France and Ligue 1 star, Adil Rami has described Cristiano Ronaldo’s comparison of the Saudi Pro League with the French Ligue 1 as a ‘mistake’.
Ronaldo, during the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on December 27, claimed that Paris Saint-Germain is the only team in the French top-flight and the league is not as competitive as Saudi’s.
The statement has generated lots of reactions, not only in France but across Europe and the football world.
Rami, who previously played for Troyes, Marseille and Lille in France, opposed Ronaldo’s comments by claiming that France produce the best talents in the world alongside Brazil.
He claimed the French Ligue 1 boosts of the best defenders and also challenged Ronaldo’s ‘little team’ in Saudi Arabia to play against 11th-placed Brest.
Rami is Mad
Rami said during a Twitch video on Sunday: “Cristiano Ronaldo, you know, I’m a fan. I’m Team Cristiano Ronaldo but he made a mistake when he said that the Saudi championship is better than the one in France, he brings a lot of people back.
“He’s saying shit. You want me to show you pictures of the defenders in Saudi Arabia. It’s not because he’s made a crazy career that as soon as he says something it’s the truth.
“Try to play against Monaco, Lille or Marseille. Go with your little team to play against Brest.
“We are the largest move in the world with Brazil. We have defenders, it’s machines!“
Champions League winner Patrice Evra Chimes In
Earlier in December, Patrice Evra claimed the French Ligue 1 is not respected in England because of lack of viewership but the presence of French clubs in the UEFA Champions League gives little visibility of the quality.
Evra said: “The English do not respect the Ligue 1 because they do not watch it but they respect the French teams, because they play them in the Champions League and they realize that.
“Me when I was in Monaco, Champions League final, best left back, everything you want. When I arrived in Manchester, no one knew me!
“Oh yes, is it the little one who was running fast on the left side? When I arrived in England, with the facilities, the TV rights, I felt like I was doing a new job. Yet I had played a Champions League final, in the French team.”
Ligue 1’s Cheeky Response to Ronaldo
Meanwhile, the French Ligue 1 sent a cheeky response to Cristiano Ronaldo after his statement about playing in bad weather conditions.
The Ligue 1, on Saturday, posted a picture of Lionel Messi who won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar while playing for PSG in the French Ligue 1.
The cheeky caption read: “Lionel Messi playing with 38 degrees celsius”.

The jibe also regenerated the Greatest Of All Time debate between Messi and Ronaldo that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner played in France from 2021 to 2023 before joining Inter Miami.
