Oakland man charged with killing two brothers during search for his daughter

OAKLAND — A package delivery service employee has been arrested and charged with murdering two brothers inside an Oakland apartment, moments after arguing with a woman about where his daughter was, court records show.

Tommy Ramsey III, 33, was charged with murdering Nathanuel Wills, 48, and his little brother Jason Wills, 46, in a Dec. 20 shooting on the 300 block of Fairmount Avenue in Oakland. Ramsey, who is listed as a UPS worker in jail records, was arrested Jan. 15 and is being held without bail.

The alleged motive is murky but appears to be related to a loud argument Ramsey was heard participating in, over the whereabouts of his daughter, according to police.

Authorities say that Ramsey and an ex-girlfriend were set to meet on the 300 block of Fairmount Avenue on the night of Dec. 20, but that several people overheard them arguing. Ramsey allegedly yelled, “give me my daughter,” shortly before the shooting. Multiple witnesses later told police that Ramsey believed his daughter was in an apartment with the Wills brothers and that he kicked the door open and fatally shot them.

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. Authorities say Ramsey was wearing a reflective vest and fled the area after shots were fired. Inside the apartment, police reportedly found a girl’s sippy cup, drug paraphernalia, and evidence that a child and a woman had been inside the apartment recently.

Ramsey has not yet entered a plea but is scheduled to soon, court records show. Police say he had an active warrant on an evading police charge at the time of the double homicide.
