Tottenham squad is excited about the rest of the season – Ange Postecoglou
Ange Postecoglou claims that the Tottenham players are excited about what they can achieve over the next few months, now that they have come through an extremely difficult spell.
Tottenham’s never-ending injury crisis
Spurs have been severely hamstrung by injuries over the last few months, with Postecoglou often not having too many more than 11 fit first-team players available to him for a sustained period.
With Tottenham essentially playing every three days, that has meant that a small group of players have been burdened with a heavy workload, which has only exacerbated the injury situation.
However, Postecoglou insisted on Thursday that he could finally see some light at the end of the tunnel, with some key players set to return over the next few weeks.
Postecoglou says players are excited for what’s to come
Finishing in the top four now looks well beyond Tottenham, who are languishing all the way down in 15th place in the Premier League table.
However, the Lilywhites are still going strong in the cup competitions, and Postecoglou claims that his players fully believe that they can still do something very special this season.
When asked about the fact that his players have had to dig deep through the injury crisis, the 59-year-old told Football.London: “Yes – they’ve had to kind of bandy together and not make excuses. They’ve been fronting up and doing the best for their club. And I think they all sense the opportunity.
“We’re deep in one competition, we’re in the knockout stages of another and further along in the FA Cup. It’s not like it’s just the league and we have to get some results in the league to brighten us up. We need to get some results in the league because where we are is unacceptable. But there is still plenty to play for and it’s exciting.
“I think they all sense that as well and they want us to get through this period so we can tackle the exciting part of the season in the best shape possible.”
Postecoglou admits supporters are hugely important
The Tottenham head coach admitted that the next few weeks could dictate the club’s fortunes for the season, which is why the players need the fans to get behind them.
He suggested that it is up to the team to deliver the sort of displays that help get rid of the doom and gloom that is surrounding the club at the moment.
When asked if the club needs the supporters to help them come through this period, Postecoglou responded: “Absolutely we do. we’re putting them through a tough time. Yeah in the league but we did beat Liverpool not that long ago at home and the atmosphere was brilliant.
“They play their part – I thought the fans were great last night to help the players on. Most fans understand the situation that we are in and they are probably not happy with but they can probably see the potential.
“Our job is to try and produce consistency in our league performances that hopefully alleviates some of the negativeness around the club at the moment. Hopefully, we can look forward to an exciting few months ahead.”
