In a rather terse email sent on Tuesday, Donald Trump told federal government workers they had to decide by Thursday of next week whether they wanted to be part of a hastily arranged “deferred resignation” programme. His email said that if they agreed by that date to quit their jobs in September, they would receive about eight months’ worth of salary as a severance package. Nice.
