Reese Witherspoon & Will Ferrell’s Sons Just Dropped a Subtle Collab & No, That’s Not a Mad Lib

0

… But if it was a Mad Lib, it would be a pretty good one, huh?! Because in what world are Elle Woods’ middle child and Buddy the Elf’s firstborn getting together to create a masterpiece?

Well, the world in which their parents both star in You’re Cordially Invited. Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell recently sat down with BuzzFeed UK to talk about their new rom-com, and the comedic duo spilled what might have been a secret.

When asked about their kids’ involvement in the movie, Witherspoon gave Ferrell a long look before covering her mouth and whispering something to him.

“Yes,” Ferrell said emphatically.

“Oh, OK,” Witherspoon responded before she turned back and asked again, “Are we allowed to say it?” Unsure if they were indeed allowed to spill the beans, she urged her co-star to share the news

“Reese’s son Deacon and my son Magnus sing a song in the soundtrack,” Ferrell shared. The two young musicians (ages 21 and 20) worked on the song that plays during a pivotal party scene in the movie and in the final credits (so stick around, folks!).

After Ferrell let the cat out of the bag, Witherspoon jumped in and shared that their sons met each other at a party about a year before production began for this movie.

“Deacon came home and was like, ‘I met Will Ferrell’s son, he was so cool, you should make a movie together,'” she said, dropping her voice a couple of octaves and slurring her words together in a perfect impression of a teen who is excited but trying to seem nonchalant.

Well, not only did too-cool-for-school-Deacon get his wish, but he got a pretty cool job out of it too. Collabing with the “so cool” Magnus Ferrell on an integral song in the film sounds *drops voice* “so cool.”

If you’re wondering if Witherspoon worries that she might have embarrassed Deacon with that impersonation, we’re going to guess she’s not losing sleep over it. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the book club founder revealed her unique parenting philosophy:

“I think you should embarrass them enough that they’re funny,” she said.

And that’s not the first time she’s said it!

During a 2020 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Sweet Home Alabama star said it’s her “job” to embarrass her kids Ava, Deacon, and Tennessee. “I just say if you’re not embarrassing your children, you’re not spending enough time with them,” she revealed. “That’s basically my role. It’s our job, as parents, to really ramp up the embarrassment.”

Celebrities — they’re just like us! Especially when it comes toembarrassing their kids.
