PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The sole occupant of a car that slid over and down the side of Highway 101 was pulled to safety in a dramatic rope rescue near Hug Point, the Cannon Beach Fire & Rescue said.
Firefighters rushed to the scene around 5:30 p.m. Saturday and found the vehicle about 100 feet below. Officials said one team set up the ropes while another team rappelled to stabilize it and check for injuries.
Paramedics arrived with an ambulance and took the driver to an area hospital for treatment of what were called "mild" injuries.
The rescue took more than 2 hours. The accident investigation continues and is being led by the Oregon State Police.
