MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man who survived being pushed onto subway tracks on New Year's Eve has reunited with the firefighters who saved him.

The unprovoked attack happened at the 18th Street train station in Chelsea, according to the NYPD. Joseph Lynskey was hit by a No. 1 train, according to authorities.

Fire Engine Company 3 and Ladder Company 12 quickly came to his rescue, crawling under the subway cars to save Lynskey.

He's still recovering from injuries, including a skull fracture and broken ribs. The suspect, Kamel Hawkins, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder, police said.

Hawkins is set to appear in court again in April.
