Artists of all abilities display, sell works of art in NOTO

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Adults with disabilities in the capital city are showing off and selling their handmade works of art.

At the First Friday Art Walk in the NOTO Arts District, almost 30 adults with disabilities had the opportunity to display and sell their artwork. The Capper Foundation worked with Fire Me Up Ceramics to give some adults art classes to create projects for the community to buy. Artists made paintings, pottery and some fiber arts as a way to showcase the artists' creativity.

The artists have been taking classes for more than a year and perfecting their crafts for Friday's show.

"It's a really great opportunity for them to be able to express themselves and then to kind of make a little money and to know that they're artworks going out into the world, kind of making little pieces of themselves and sending it out into the world, which is kind of an amazing thing," Kristin Fischer, Capper Foundations Education Coordinator said.

If you missed the showcase, don't worry, artwork will be sold at Fire Me Up Ceramics until Feb. 28. Fischer said half of the money from the purchases go to the artists and the other half pays for continued classes and supplies.
