Michael Jackson’s mom ‘rocked to her core’ by his daughter’s heroin confession & sees tragic similarities in drug battle
TROUBLED model and pop star Paris Jackson shocked her grandmother Katherine over her admission that she was hooked on heroin earlier this year, according to sources.
Katherine, 94, knew that her son Michael‘s only daughter had “endured some tough times” but was reportedly “rocked to her core” when she learned Paris, 26, was battling a heroin addiction.
One family insider revealed that Katherine was “totally unaware” that her granddaughter was dealing with alcohol and heroin addictions up until 2019.
Katherine had been Paris’ guardian after her son’s untimely death in 2009, until resigning in 2017.
But Paris “hid the depth of drug addictions” from close family.
A second family member and sibling of the King of Pop, who refused to go public about their niece, told The U.S. Sun that they saw parallels between Michael and his daughter when it came to “addiction issues.”
The sibling, who enjoyed their own solo career, revealed, “Michael spent much of his life after 1984 battling addictions to everything from painkillers to prescription drugs to narcotics.
“Paris has to deal with those demons. It is utterly heartbreaking.
“Her aunts and uncles were concerned about what kind of life she was leading, but the reality was that no-one could get close to her.
“Just like Michael – an intervention was just not possible. She had her own friends, places to escape and money to hide away and lead this life.
“Everyone suspected something was wrong – apart from Katherine – but nothing could be done.”
The long term family friend revealed how Katherine, who has been wheelchair bound for the last six years, was “devastated when she heard the news through her children about Paris’ heroin use.”
The insider told The U.S. Sun, “Katherine was utterly devastated at her granddaughter’s admission on social media.
“She genuinely had no idea. Paris did not share that news with her grandmother, most likely because it would have tipped her over the edge.
“Katherine knew that Michael’s life was impacted by addictions, but always prayed that these issues were simply missteps in the path of life rather than long term problems.
“Now she has felt that there are clear parallels between Paris and her daddy.
“Obviously the notion that Paris has been clean for so long pleases her.
“But at the same time she knows that her soul still remains destroyed that Michael never managed to shake his addictions and reliance on drugs.”
Michael Jackson battled years of addiction to painkillers and prescriptions after suffering devastating burns on his scalp when his hair went up in flames in an accident during a 1984 Pepsi commercial.
The iconic pop singer relied on pills, injectables like Demerol and even anesthesia drugs such as Propofol to “numb his pain.”
However, he hid those drugs from his family – and especially his beloved mother.
Michael died at age 50 from a Propofol overdose at his Holmby Hills mansion in June 2009, days before his planned UK comeback.
The family insider added, “Katherine is arguably still in denial about Michael’s death still to this day.
“She cannot fathom that her beloved son would ever be so addicted to such extreme drugs.
“Now Paris has dealt with her own demons, Katherine is in shock….while her other kids fear that the resemblances between father and daughter could prove problematic in the long term.”
Representatives of Katherine and Paris Jackson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
PARIS’ MILESTONE
Paris shared a heart-filled video on Instagram in early January, celebrating her fifth year of sobriety.
“Hi, I’m pk and I’m an alcoholic and a heroin addict,” Paris wrote.
“Today marks 5 years clean & sober from all drugs and alcohol. To say that I’m thankful would be a poor euphemism.
“Gratitude hardly scratches the surface. It’s because I’m sober that I get to smile today. I get to make music. I get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat.”
Paris continued, “I get to feel heartbreak in all it’s glory. I get to grieve. I get to laugh. I get to dance. I get to trust. I feel the sun on my skin and it’s warm.
“I’ve found that life keeps happening regardless of whether I’m sober or not, but today I get to show up for it.”
The Instagram reel featured videos of Paris throughout the years, first showing her smoking, drinking Jameson straight from the bottle, and in emotional states.
“Here’s a little snapshot of what has been possible because of my sobriety, and my god I can’t believe I almost missed it all,” the pop star closed off.
The video montage then cuts to Paris’ healing process as she shares pictures of the recovery chips and coins she received through the years.
While sober, a vibrant Paris is pictured dancing in public with friends, making music, and spending time with her dogs and intimate moments she shared with her fiancé, music producer Justin Long.
