Little-known Android phone has a mega battery that lasts 20 DAYS – and hidden extra you can only use at night

0

THE Doogee S200 is a space-age brick of a phone designed for rugged-wear and can survive a nearly two-metre drop unscathed.

But its standout feature has to be its battery, which can last up to 20 days on standby.

Pros

  • Rugged design
  • 100MP camera
  • Night vision
  • Toolbag app

Cons

  • Weak speakers
  • Very heavy

Doogee S200: Look and feel

The Doogee S200 is solid – and certainly not something you’d want to drop on your toe.

It weighs a whopping 369g – more than twice the weight of the iPhone 16.

And its screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass, which, while not the hardiest on the market, is scratch resistant and tough for the price.

The back of the phone, for me, is what brings the wow factor.

The Doogee S200 is adorned with sci-fi-style aesthetics, which particularly jump out on the silver model.

It also boasts a bright, second, touch screen display that can be used to show a clock, notifications, compass, battery level, music, and even a calendar.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be a way to customise which apps are on display here – but I’m a fan nonetheless.

Doogee S200: Performance and software

While the Doogee S200 is a beefcake of a phone, that’s not reflected in its sluggish software.

Running on Android 14, the heavyweight device is fast and smooth in performance.

The phone comes loaded with a number of native apps designed with tradesmen and women in mind.

It’s fit for nearly 500hours on standby before it needs its next charge – the equivalent of 20days.

It has a Toolbag app fit with a spirit level, plumb bob and even an app for picture hanging.

Gaming and streaming are when the 6.72inch screen and 1080×2400 resolution come in handy.

The 120Hz refresh rate means the device can keep up with fast-paced shooter titles like Call of Duty.

Though Gaming Mode doesn’t do much beyond muting notifications.

Netflix runs well and the colours are vibrant, albeit slightly fuzzy in comparison to a device with higher resolution.

The 1400:1 contrast ratio means the streaming is a breeze in direct sunlight.

Though it’s worth noting the speakers are a bit tinny.

Doogee S200: Battery

The Doogee S200 boasts a 10100 mAh battery, which is nearly three times as powerful as the iPhone 16.

It’s fit for nearly 500 hours on standby before it needs its next charge – the equivalent of 20 days.

Of course, that’s only really the case if its sat in a drawer somewhere.

If you use your phone a lot for calls, streaming, gaming, the battery is going to run dry much sooner.

It’s worth noting the device is not compatible with wireless charging – which would have been an added bonus.

But I, for one, am not fussed about a cable-free power up – especially since the device has 33W fast-charging.

Doogee S200: Camera

The device has a 20MP front camera, and a 100MP camera on the back.

The rear camera has three lenses, for its various camera modes, and an infrared flash for Night Vision.

It has a maximum of 4X zoom, which is not as impressive as other Android phones out there.

The night vision camera is a really nice touch, and goes far beyond the average ‘night mode’ other phones offer.

And the pictures look a bit washed out in comparison with an iPhone 14 Max, which I tested the camera against.

But all in all, the image quality is good enough.

The night vision camera, however, works a treat.

It’s perfect for capturing late night wildlife, or for seeing in the dark in general.

Doogee S200: Drop test

In terms of protection, the Doogee S200 is waterproof, dust-proof and drop-proof – meaning it is rated IP68, IP69K, and MIL-STD 810.

The device is rated to a 1.8metre drop – which The Sun put to the test in the video above.

It survived, with no cracks on the main screen or the rear display, the latter of which I found most impressive.

Though there are a few minor scuff marks on the corners, it’s only the aesthetics; the phone is still in perfect working order.

The Verdict

Final thoughts by Millie Turner, Senior Technology & Science Reporter

The Doogee S200 is built for rugged, daily use.

It’s ideal for worksites, hiking, camping – or for the chronically clumsy.

The night vision camera is a really nice touch, and goes far beyond the average ‘night mode’ other phones offer.

The hefty battery, too, is another huge perk.

Doogee has gone big on the mecha design, which won’t be for everyone – but it certainly helps it stand out from the crowd.

While there are a couple of downsides, like the tinny speakers and the fact that it barely fits into any of my pockets, the handset is durable and can take a bit of a beating.

Rated 4/5.

  • How much does it cost? $412 / £326
  • When is it out? Available now
  • Where can you get it? Doogee, Amazon
