Local breweries partner with nonprofit
MALTA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A collaboration is taking place in the Capital Region. The non-profit Pink Boots Society has partnered with seven local breweries to craft a custom beer. It's part of an annual celebration that showcases the skills of women and nonbinary people in the brewing industry.
Collaboration Brew Day is the Pink Boots Society's largest annual fundraising event with a portion of the proceeds going toward scholarships. The society has awarded more than 400 scholarships since the initiative began in 2013.
But the money isn't raised overnight. Organizers said there's a lot of hard work that happens first.
"We mashed it on our mash tun, so we will be doing the whole brew today," Unified Beerworks Assistant Brewer Lynn Doyle said. "And then within two weeks, fermentation will happen, canning will happen, and we'll have this as a packaged beverage."
The beer will be available in a few weeks at Active Ingredient Brewing Company, Common Roots Brewing Company, Indian Ladder Farms, and Unified Beerworks.
