United Airlines flight returns to O’Hare due to issue with cockpit windshield

A United Airlines flight returned to O’Hare Airport shortly after it took off Wednesday after pilots reported an issue with the windshield.

The plane carrying 156 passengers and six crew members departed about 9 a.m. for Los Cabos, Mexico, but “an issue with the cockpit windshield” forced the plane to turn around and land back at O’Hare around 10:40 a.m., according to United Airlines and the flight tracking site FlightAware.

“The flight landed safely and was met by emergency crews as a precaution before it taxied to the gate, where passengers safely deplaned,” United said in a statement. “We appreciate the quick action of our crew to keep our passengers and employees safe and we’ve arranged for a new aircraft to take customers to their destination.”

The replacement plane left O’Hare about 2:15 p.m., according to FlightAware.
