HBO Unveils Release Date For ‘Celtics City’ Documentary Series
The Boston Celtics have been a worthwhile watch throughout their title defense, however, fans can look forward to the upcoming HBO documentary series covering the franchise’s illustrious 79-year history.
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown’s capture of Banner 18, along with the team’s storied winning tradition will all be covered in the nine-part docuseries titled “Celtics City.” The Ringer’s Bill Simmons and fellow ESPN “30-for-30” co-creator Connor Schell are the executive producers behind the project that’ll debut on March 3 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max, and release each episode weekly through April 28.
“Featuring never-before-seen archival footage and over 80 interviews with past and present Boston Celtics legends – from Bob Cousy and Larry Bird to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown – the series captures the scope of the team’s influence, weaving together the personalities, battles, tragedies, and triumphs that have defined the franchise across more than seven decades of American history,” the documentary’s synopsis read, per Warner Bros. Discovery.
Celtics enemies such as the late Jerry West, Pat Riley and James Worthy, along with celebrities Donnie Wahlberg and Bel Biv DeVoe are also included in the laundry list of names that helped bring the multi-year production to life. West, a six-time Boston enemy in the NBA Finals, passed away last summer on June 12.
The series is also slated to include footage of Boston’s latest Larry O’Brien Trophy capture over Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks. “Celtics City” will retell the winningest NBA organization’s story from start to finish, giving all generations a glimpse of what the Celtics of 1957, 1986 and 2008 did to pave the way for Tatum and Brown to grasp the torch and carry on the tradition.
HBO released the official trailer on Wednesday, giving everyone a nearly three-minute-long preview of what to expect.
