12000 Police officers, charter flights and more: All you need to know about security measures for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan

New Delhi: After a 29-year hiatus, Pakistan is set to host an ICC event, beginning with the opening match against New Zealand on Wednesday. Security has been a major issue for international sports events in the country, particularly following the incident involving the Sri Lanka team in 2009. Although the Indian team opted not to come to Pakistan for the event, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has implemented additional security measures to guarantee the safety of other visiting teams.

Local media reports indicate that a total of 12,000 police officers and personnel are set to be assigned to matches taking place in Lahore and Rawalpindi. The deployment will consist of 18 senior officers, 54 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), 135 inspectors, 1,200 upper subordinates, 10,556 constables, and more than 200 female police officers.

In addition to security staff, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has organized special charter flights through Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for fans and participating teams. These flights are expected to operate between Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore to facilitate seamless travel for players and other prominent guests during the tournament.

Cricket enthusiasm has taken hold in Pakistan as the Champions Trophy approaches, with fans eagerly anticipating the start of the matches on Wednesday. Additionally, businesses associated with the sport are experiencing a surge in activity ahead of the tournament’s opening game between the host nation, Pakistan, and New Zealand.
