Girl, 11, kills herself after ‘classmates threaten to call immigration agents to deport her’
An 11-year-old school girl took her own life after classmates allegedly threatened to tell immigration agents to deport her and her family.
Jocelynn Rojo Carranza’s mother found her unresponsive in their home in Gainesville, Texas, on February 3.
‘When I got home, they were still working on her, trying to revive her,’ Carranza told KUVN.
‘She had been without life for a long time.’
Jocelynn died five days later at Medical City of Dallas, surrounded by family members, according to her obituary.
‘She was a wonderful daughter, sister, niece and friend to everyone,’ it states.
‘She loved to dance and sing. Played the French Horn. She made TikTok Videos, love to do the lates [sic] trends. She was always active, loved swimming and doing cartwheels. Movie nights Fridays where special time with the Family.’
The sixth grader’s mother, Marbella Carranza, said other students at Gainesville Intermediate School targeted her over her family’s immigration status.
‘They were going to call immigration so they could take her parents away and she would be left alone,’ Carranza told KUVN, without elaborating on their legal status.
The mom believes Jocelynn was reporting the bullying incidents to counselors once or twice per week.
‘It appears the school was aware of it all, but they never, they never told me what was happening with my daughter,’ she said.
Carranza seeks ‘justice because it’s not fair’.
‘The school was negligent for not keeping me informed of what was going on with my daughter,’ she said.
Gainesville Independent School District is aware of the ‘serious incident’ and bullying reports and is conducting an investigation. The district declined to comment on specific students or incidents and said it has anti-bullying and conflict resolution policies in place.
‘Whenever we receive a report of bullying, we respond swiftly to ensure all students are safe physically and emotionally,’ a district official told CNN.
Since returning for his second term in the White House, President Donald Trump has ordered mass deportations and arrests of illegal migrants. At least 8,000 undocumented immigrants have already been deported, with federal agencies targeting ‘the worst of the worst’.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement is tasked with detaining and deporting illegal migrants.
On Tuesday, the White House released an ‘ASMR’ video showing shackled migrants being escorted to their deportation flights.
