Ryan Reynolds Came Up With Justin Baldoni Joke During 'SNL,' According to Staff Member

A Saturday Night Live staff member addressed the controversial joke that Ryan Reynolds made while attending the show’s 50th anniversary celebration over the weekend.

The 48-year-old actor was joined at the event by his wife Blake Lively, and it was her first public appearance amid her legal battle with It Ends With Us costar and director Justin Baldoni.

During the televised special, Ryan appeared to joke about the situation while participating in a Q&A session with SNL alums Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Justin‘s lawyer was quick to call Ryan out for making light of the situation after his wife accused Justin of sexual harassment.

Now, a staff member involved with the show claimed that it was Ryan‘s idea to make the joke.

During an appearance on the Australian radio show Fifi, Fev & Nick, Wally Feresten opened up about the joke. If you were unaware, Wally handles the show’s cue cards. He also works behind the scenes of Late Night with Seth Meyers.

“He had a different line in rehearsal, and he pitched that to replace it,” Wally claimed about the joke. “So that was his idea to do it.”

He continued, saying, “We wouldn’t want to do anything too controversial unless they were in on it. So yeah, that was his line. That was his idea to do.”
