Who won Jonathan Haggerty vs Demon Blade at ONE 171?
In the co-main event of ONE 171 Jonathan ‘The General’ Haggerty defeated Rui ‘Demon Blade’ Wei to defend his 145lbs kickboxing belt.
The dominant display by ‘The General’ has shown that making the switch may just be the start of a promising kickboxing career.
Despite having little experience in the discipline, the 28-year-old Londoner silenced his critics with a tremendous decision.
‘Demon Blade’s’ had been on a 21-fight win streak and was unbeaten since 2018.
This fantastic win saw him sweep the scorecards 50-45, 49-46 and 49-46.
It is yet to be seen on what Haggerty’s next move is, but he has hinted on wanting to return to Muay Thai, after being KO’d in his last fight to Superlek.
Speaking after the fight, Haggerty said: “A lot of people were writing off Wei Rui.
“What a great opponent, one of the best I’ve been in there with.
“It was a pleasure to share the cage with him. Everyone doubted him but I stayed switched on.
“I knew what I had to do and that’s to get the victory.”
Haggerty then revealed this was one of the biggest fights of his career because of the shock KO against Superlek.
“You don’t know how much this one means to me,” he said.
“Coming off a loss against Superlek it was like ‘have I got the punch resistance?’
“All that stuff goes through your head after getting knocked out in 49 seconds and I trained so hard for this fight.”
