‘Bitter end to an epic card’: Pros react to eye poke, Song Yadong’s win over Henry Cejudo at UFC Seattle
Song Yadong got the biggest win of his career, but it wasn’t the way he wanted it to happen.
In the main event of UFC Seattle, Song got the better of former two-division champion Henry Cejudo over three rounds, but an eye poke in Round 3 led to a controversial conclusion as Cejudo said he could no longer see, and the fight went to the judges’ scorecards. Song was awarded a technical decision victory.
On the broadcast, lead play-by-play commentator Brendan Fitzgerald said that he spoke with Marc Ratner, the UFC’s Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, and was told that if Cejudo decided to not continue in the third round, the bout would’ve been called a no contest, but “Triple C” elected to continue on.
Song said he would run it right back with Cejudo, and apologized to the fans, while Cejudo seemed to concur that was the way to go.
Check out how UFC pros reacted to the main event.
